Silicon Laboratories Inc., a leader in high-performance, analog-intensive, mixed-signal ICs, had a full-scale demonstration of its high-performance solutions teaming up with its professional IC distributor EDOM Technology Ltd during the IIC-China 2008 from 3^rd to 4^th in March, 2008 in Shenzhen, China. Silicon Labs have shown off its advantages to the world by its advanced micro-controller products, Broadcast and Wireline portfolio, which have grabbed the eyeballs from all the attendants of the exhibition. 

 

 

 

Silicon Labs have also announced the first micro-controller with its operating voltage less than 0.9V in the industry in this exhibition, the C8051F9xx series. This is the first time that a portable device can be powered from only one battery source. C8051F9xx is packed in 4x4mm, and has inherited all the good genes from its predecessor, including integrated high-accuracy ADC, SmaRTClock timing module, and high-capacity Flash Rom. Furthermore, the most significant feature is the integration of LDO and DC/DC respectively. In dual power mode, the LDO is used while DC/DC is used in single power mode. It can provide micro-controller core with 1.7V power at both mode efficiently. Even when the operating voltage is as low as 0.9V, the micro-controller can still work as usual. This is the first that that any portable device can be powered by a single battery.

C8051F9xx is very suitable to those products that need frequent battery changing, e.g. wireless sensor network, smoke detector, portal medical instrument, remote control, computer peripheral and portal audio device. It can make them smaller and make the battery life longer. Besides, it can help reduce the system total cost by single or dual battery mode.
