NFC Reader ICs
NFC readers are the active components in any NFC transaction. They can read and write cards and tags, interact with NFC phones and enable a communication from device to device. We have the broadest portfolio of high-performance NFC readers, fully supporting the MIFARE® ICs.

Depending on your system architecture, choose from one of these three reader types:
  • Programmable NFC Controller: These highly integrated devices combine an NFC frontend with a freely programmable 32-bit Arm® Cortex®-M0 microcontroller. They are the optimal solution for very compact footprints and function as your main system microcontroller.
  • NFC controller with integrated firmware: These plug-and-play solutions combine an NFC frontend with a 32-bit Cortex-M0 microcontroller equipped with integrated firmware, and are optimized for use with application processors. They come with Linux, Android, and WinIoT drivers, and include an NCI interface.
  • NFC Frontend: These NFC devices are the most flexible way to add NFC connectivity to a system. The NFC stack runs on the separate system MCU. All our NFC frontends are supported by our NFC Reader Library, so design-in is fast and easy.

NTAG® for Tags & Labels
This passively powered NFC tag and label IC solutions consist of the NTAG21x, the NTAG Tag Tamper and the NTAG DNA families addressing different application needs. They work seamlessly with our NFC reader ICs, which are used in more than 90 percent of all NFC-equipped mobile handset models. NTAG21x NFC solutions can store NDEF-formatted data, making them fully compatible with every NFC-enabled phone and the entire ISO/IEC 14443 infrastructure for contactless smart cards.

The NTAG NFC IC families for tags and labels are based on ISO/IEC 14443 and ISO/IEC 15693 industry standards and the portfolio covers the NFC Forum tag types 2, 4 and 5. Various memory sizes, dedicated special features and different security mechanisms are implemented allowing to select the best cost-benefit option for an application. The NTAG products work seamlessly with our NFC reader ICs and NFC enabled smart mobile devices.

NTAG can enable entirely new consumer experiences and supports new business applications including interactive advertising, proximity retail marketing, on-package and on-product information sharing, easy Wifi or Bluetooth pairing or business card exchange. In connection with cloud-based services and NFC enabled mobile devices the tagged items have their own addressable digital profiles and data exchange and service delivery can happen in real time enabling IoT solutions.

NFC Tags for Electronics
Our NFC connected tag solutions include:
  • The NTAG F portfolio, which targets battery-powered systems (such as speakers and headsets) where it can wake the system and initiate Bluetooth or WiFi pairing.
  • The NTAG I2C plus portfolio, which supports full bidirectional communication between an NFC-enabled device and the host system’s microcontroller. NTAG I2C plus solutions can also power embedded systems via the HF field.

NTAG® SmartSensor
Our NTAG SmartSensor portfolio offers single-chip solutions that combine NFC connectivity with autonomous sensing, data processing, and logging. These devices can be easily combined with other companion chips, such as radios or sensor solutions. NTAG SmartSensor devices are ideal for Internet of Things (IoT) products.

Like the rest of our NTAG products, they work seamlessly with our NFC reader ICs, which are used in more than 90% of all NFC-equipped mobile handset models. The NTAG SmartSensor communicates via NDEF-formatted data.

Internet of Things
NTAG SmartSensor devices are ideal for IoT products. Data collected in the application is transferred via an NFC reader into the cloud for further treatment and analysis. As most smartphones have an NFC interface, data collection and reading are intuitive with dedicated apps on the phone.

Medical and pharmaceutical use
NHS3100 and NHS3152 are individually temperature-calibrated in production and ISO/IEC 17025 calibration certificates with NIST traceability are available here.

Temperature Characteristics:
  • Absolute accuracy of 0.3°C in the range of 0 to 40°C
  • Absolute accuracy of 0.5°C in the range of -40 to 0°C and 40 to 85°C
Temperature recalibration is not required for applications that need either accuracy profile.
